Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of 136 branches across the UK, with sites from Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland set to shut their doors between May 2025 and March 2026.
The move comes as more customers switch to online and mobile banking, reducing the need for physical branches. Lloyds says its decision is based on changing banking habits, with over 20 million customers now managing their finances digitally.

Why Are the Branches Closing?
A Lloyds spokesperson explained:
“Our customers have more choice and flexibility than ever when it comes to managing their money. While we understand that closing branches may be disappointing for some, we are making sure there are still a range of ways to bank – including online, mobile, and in-person services at the Post Office and Banking Hubs.“
Lloyds has assured that all affected staff will be offered alternative roles, meaning no immediate job losses.
What Are the Alternatives?
If your local branch is on the list, here are some of the ways you can still access banking services:
- Online & Mobile Banking – Available 24/7 for payments, transfers, and managing accounts.
- Telephone Banking – Speak to an advisor for account support.
- Post Office Banking – Deposit and withdraw cash at over 11,000 Post Office locations.
- Banking Hubs – Shared branches where multiple banks offer face-to-face services.
