Seamus Ford of Eastleigh Jailed After Dangerous Salisbury Police Chase

16 December 2025 by Staff Reporter

Seamus Ford, a 22-year-old man from Eastleigh, has been jailed following a prolonged and highly dangerous police pursuit that ended near Salisbury, after officers were forced to use tactical manoeuvres to bring his vehicle to a stop. The incident, which unfolded on the evening of 30 October 2025, placed multiple road users at serious risk and spanned three counties.

Video: Body-worn and pursuit footage released by police shows some of the chase across multiple counties, ending near Salisbury after officers carried out a TPAC manoeuvre.

Background and Initial Incident

Seamus Ford was first reported to police after colliding with roadside bins near a Wetherspoons pub in Salisbury. When officers attempted to stop his blue Volkswagen Golf on Brown Street, Ford failed to comply and instead drove off, triggering a pursuit.

What began as a local response quickly escalated into a wider operation, with police units tracking the vehicle across county boundaries as Ford continued to evade arrest.

The Police Pursuit

The chase lasted for approximately 45 minutes and involved officers from multiple areas. During the pursuit, Ford drove at speed and repeatedly engaged in extremely dangerous behaviour, including:

  • Driving on the wrong side of the road
  • Overtaking vehicles on solid white lines
  • Turning off his headlights
  • Deliberately driving towards oncoming traffic in what officers described as “playing chicken”

Police later said the manner of driving created a significant risk of head-on collisions and serious injury or death to other road users.

The pursuit was eventually brought to an end on the A338 near New Forest Water Park, where officers carried out a TPAC (Tactical Pursuit and Containment) manoeuvre to safely stop the vehicle.

Arrest and Drug Offences

Following his arrest, Ford was found to be in possession of heroin and cannabis. Subsequent tests showed he was positive for both cannabis and cocaine. Police also confirmed that he had no valid driving licence or insurance at the time of the incident.

Court Proceedings and Sentence

Ford initially appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court, where he was remanded in custody pending further proceedings.

At Salisbury Crown Court on Thursday 27 November 2025, he pleaded guilty to:

  • Dangerous driving
  • Failing to provide a specimen for analysis
  • Possession of a Class A drug (heroin)
  • Possession of a Class B drug (cannabis)

He was sentenced to 15 months in prison and disqualified from driving for 19 months.

Analysis and Implications

Cases involving prolonged police pursuits continue to raise serious public safety concerns, particularly where suspects drive recklessly through populated areas. Police guidance makes clear that pursuits are only continued where the risk of allowing a suspect to escape outweighs the danger of continuing the chase.

In this case, the court heard that Ford’s actions posed an immediate and sustained threat to the public, a factor that significantly influenced the custodial sentence imposed.

What Happens Next

Ford will serve his sentence in custody and remain banned from driving beyond his release date. Police continue to urge members of the public to report dangerous driving and to comply immediately when instructed to stop by officers.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the severe legal consequences of attempting to evade police and driving while under the influence of drugs.
