George Madgwick, the Reform UK group leader on Hampshire County Council, has been charged with 35 criminal offences, including rape and sexual assault, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.
The 37-year-old councillor faces charges concerning four complainants. The CPS said the alleged offences took place between 2008 and 2021 in Portsmouth and Wales. The charges include rape, sexual assault, controlling or coercive behaviour and making indecent images of a child.
What We Know
The charges were announced on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. They are allegations to be considered through the criminal justice process, not findings of guilt.
Madgwick leads the Reform UK group at Hampshire County Council, where he represents North East Havant. He is also a Reform UK councillor for Paulsgrove on Portsmouth City Council. Both councils list him as an elected member.
What We Don’t Know
The charging announcement does not establish whether any of the allegations are true. Fish 4 News has not independently confirmed a plea or the timetable for future hearings.
We have not included speculation about the complainants or the circumstances of the alleged offences. Reporting restrictions and the privacy of those involved must be respected.
Why This Matters
Madgwick holds elected office at both county and city level. His public role makes the charging decision newsworthy, but it does not change the legal position: he is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until a court finds otherwise.
